Prof. JIN, Dayong received his PhD degree in biomedical instrumentation at Macquarie University in 2007. He is an Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellow, Chief Investigator of the ARC Centre of Excellence - Nanoscale Biophotonics (2014-2020), and the director of “Advanced Cytometry Laboratories @ Macquarie University”. His labs explore the time-domain strategies to unlock the restraints of sensitivity and throughput issues, which are currently limiting the advanced cell imaging and molecular sensing.
Prof. JIN is a technology developer with expertise covering nanophotonics, luminescent nanomaterials, imaging, and automation devices. He invented the ultra-sensitive SuperDot®, multiplexing tau-Dots, and time-resolved cytometry techniques for rapid detection of cells and molecules.
His talk will focus on the new generation of nanophotonic upconversion probes (SuperDots and t-Dots) that are ultrabright, low background interference, and have large-scale multiplexing capacity. He will showcase significant applications spanning the fields of immunofluorescence imaging, rare-event cell detection and quantification, security printing, and super-resolution nanoscopy. These demonstrations radically extends the current optical capability by adding the yet untapped temporal dimension of luminescent signals and opening viable avenues to cope with the complexity challenges in the life sciences, medicine and data storage and security.
